Knowledge Center Initiative

The Knowledge Fair - November 2004

IWMI held its first Knowledge Fair at HQ on Friday, November 19th. This Knowledge Fair is one of our efforts to move in the direction of becoming a Knowledge Center, and provided an opportunity to share and solicit feedback on IWMI's research, implementation and dissemination strategies. The fair took place immediately after the IWMI Board meeting. Instead of going on a field trip the Board members participated in the Knowledge Fair, giving the Board members an opportunity to be more exposed to IWMI programs and have more direct contact with IWMI staff.   A number of IWMI's partners in Sri Lanka were invited. Since the day also served as a form of "open day" staff were encouraged to bring family members to IWMI that day as well. Refreshments and lunch were served. Besdies the stalls on research and research support topics, there were presentations, demonstrations, brief seminars. The program was basically repeated twice so that guests could take part in specific sessions and also visit stalls throughout the day. One of the features of the fair was the way in which all categories of staff were involved, from receiving guests, making presentations, looking after stalls, overseeing presentation rooms, and attending to the numerous technical requirements. Thanks in the end to all, but the organizing committee deserve special appreciation. Julie, Meredith, Michael and Nazreen.
